CONC volunteers are continuing to stock the cross country shelters with firewood for the approaching winter. A crew of willing and eager CONC members met at the Forest Service supply yard and shops at 9:00 am on Friday, October 30th. They organized themselves and loaded 3/4 of a cord of wood onto the Forest Service pick vehicle call “Long Shanks.” A short trip to Swede Shelter through Meissner snow-park was the group’s first destination. There they unloaded the truck and filled the shelter with firewood for the winter.
After that the group hopped over to Edison snow-park and cut their way along the 600 road. With Chris Sabo bucking and everyone else splitting and loading wood, they filled the truck with another 3/4 cord. The road was rough, but volunteers and the truck made it to Edison, then unloaded and stacked wood there as well. All the snow shelters (with the exception only of AC/DC) are now stocked with firewood and ready to go.
Club President Jerry Sebestyen extended a great big thank you to volunteers Doris Feenstra, Susan Frankie, Nancy Pustis, Gary Elnan, Roz O’Donoghue, and Jeanni Capell, with a big atta boy to Chris Sabo, the group’s intrepid leader.
