The Alder Springs trail 17 miles NE of Sisters is Gary Kelley’s favorite early season hike. Five hikers followed him down into the desert canyon to the Wychus Creek on Thursday, May 23. All were forewarned to bring poles, sandals, and shorts for the stream crossing that enabled them to continue hiking to the junction with the Deschutes River. It was reported that the weather turned out to be perfect, with lots of arrowleaf, bitterroot, lupine, and cherry blossoms. No reports of rattlesnake sightings, so a great time was had by all.
