Berley Lakes Ramble

There were no CONC group hikes again this past weekend, but adventure is still out there to be had.

Thursday July 23rd was a sunlit and breezy day in the Cascades, with perfect temperatures for a walk on and beyond the PCT.   Roz lead five CONC members on a hike to the two Berley Lakes that featured well worn trails, a little bushwhacking, secluded lakes, burns alternating with shady woods, and a ramble off trail on meadows that beckoned for a Sound of Music moment.  The lake opens onto a spectacular view of Three Fingered Jack.  Hikers came prepared with bug spray and even some head nets, but the breezes kept most of the bugs at bay, so all could enjoy a lakeside lunch graced with flowers and mountain views.   The bliss quotient was satisfyingly high, and at trail’s end, all agreed it was a day well spent.

Here, thanks to Ron Lambert, are some exercises to help keep folks in prime hiking condition.
