‘Epic’ Hike Over Opie Dilldock Pass

Nine hikers had an “epic” journey on a CONC Meetup outing that took them over Opie Dilldock Pass on Thursday, Sept. 20.

The route went through varied terrain – by scenic mountain lakes, forest, lava flows and of course Opie Dilldock, which is at 6,900 feet of elevation.

“The temperature and air quality were perfect. It was an epic 15-mile journey,” reports group leader Gary Kelley.

An Oregonian article says the pass was named in 1932 for a comic-strip character who always found a way to get out of tight situations, as trail builders did here.
