Eric Ness, an avid skier who moved to SunRiver last year, is the new website editor for the Central Oregon Nordic Club.
Eric will be the main person responsible for news content on the CONC website, posting contributions from club members and writing stories.
He succeeds Allen Sykora, who has resigned effective in early June. Allen will help out as a backup writer/editor when available. Pat Haim and James Cagney will do the same, and James will continue overseeing the technical aspect of maintaining a website. (Eric is on the left in the upper photo, and James is on the right.)
“I appreciate the opportunity to become more involved with CONC,” Eric says.
He previously wrote an online blog in 2017 while living in Japan. Eric has a PhD in Materials Science and worked as a process engineer and researcher in the field of technical ceramics for the past 30 years. He currently works part time for Colorado-based CoorsTek, which is owned by the Coors family. He has written a number of technical papers and journals during his career.
“I enjoy writing, and while working and living in Japan for a year with my wife, I wrote a blog touching on various aspects of life in that fascinating country,” Eric says.
“Perhaps more importantly, I’ve been a skier for about 55 years, starting out in alpine skiing, then switching in junior high to Nordic skiing. I enjoy back country skiing, telemarking, and skate skiing.”
Eric plans to compete on a relay team in the upcoming Pole, Pedal, Paddle race. He also did a hut-to-hut ski trip Jotenheimen National Park in Norway during March. His wife, Annie, a retired special-education teacher, is also a skier who likes to snowshoe.
“Both my wife and I enjoy hiking and backpacking, and plan to join up often with the CONC weekly outings,” Eric says.
