Seven informally organized CONC hikers hiked along the Deschutes River from Riley Ranch Nature Reserve to Tumalo State Park and back on Sunday, May 5, with one hiker beginning at the park and going the other way.
The group “got to savor the clear skies, new spring growth and sparkling water along the river,” says hiker Pat Haim.
“Sand lilies had begun blooming in spots along with wild currant bushes, and here and there, the first yellow bunches of Oregon grape flowers. There were circling raptors on the rimrock, and several geese posed on a boulder in the middle of the river.”
