Riley Ranch Nature Reserve at the north end of Bend is a treasure for hikers (no dogs, no bikes). It’s very close, with a number of mileage choices. On Sunday, 14 CONC hikers set from the top Riley Ranch parking area towards Tumalo State Park down the river, and back. Some did a variation of that, heading down to river level, north to Tumalo State Park, and back for a maximum hike of about six miles. The confluence of the Deschutes River and Tumalo Creek is a particularly pleasant spot along the way.
