With rain and a light snowfall in the Cascade mountains, members of the Central Oregon Nordic Club headed east to hike on Sunday, Oct. 28.
“Everyone was interested in getting another hike in,” says Linda Frost, one of the group leaders. “Eleven hiked to the rockpile in Dry River Canyon, and back. The cliffs rising out of the canyon are always a treat.
“Then nine came out at the east end of the canyon and came back cross-country above the north rim of the canyon and scrambled down to the cars.”
Hiker Martha Rose describes a “wonderful hike through geologic wonder.”
“Many of the ‘regulars’ remembered the sighting of a mountain goat [a few years back],” she says. “All looked for it again but only found many bird nests in the basalt cliffs. A few drops of rain enlivened the thoughts of snow in the mountains soon.”
