Jerry Sebestyen lead a group of twelve people on the McKenzie River Trail on Sunday, August 18. They began at the upper trailhead and hiked down past Clear Lake on the east side of the lake to the lower part of Sahalie Falls. As you can see from the photos the color of the lake and river were spectacular. The group had lunch at a spot with a great view of the the lower falls. They then hiked back up hill going past Clear Lake on the west side to return to the upper trail head. It was a total of about 9.5 miles, but hiking through the old growth fir, pine, and hemlock forest was a real treat. A couple of trees that might have been Madrone were also spotted. The temperature was warm but not terribly hot with the forest canopy providing excellent cover and the water’s cooling effect making for a very pleasant day.
