Meetup Groups Make Way To Broken Top

Only one thing was missing when a dozen CONC skiers made their way to the expanse below Broken Top on Thursday, Jan. 17, and that was  Broken Top itself.

The 9,177-foot mountain was obscured by low clouds.

There were plenty of sunny smiles anyway on a fresh-powder day.

The group made the trek via the “Good View” route, reports leader Gary Kelley. This includes a spot where there are views of Broken Top in one direction and

Mt. Bachelor the opposite way – when the sun is out, that is. The skiers followed the “ghost of a track” left the previous day by another CONC Meetup group led by Jerry Sebestyen.

“There was a nice blanket of fairly heavy new snow,” Gary says. “The ski back was fun!

“We had good visibility in the wonderful open meadows and hemlocks, but Broken Top remained hidden.”
