The Portland chapter of ONC accepted the responsibility of trail maintenance in the Ochoco Mountains following the dissolution of the Ochoco ONC chapter. Last week the trail maintenance coordinator, Ken Wenzel, had heard from only a couple of folks interested in helping clear trail on July 12-16, so he requested help from the Central Oregon Chapter. Three people from the CONC responded; Gary Evans, Anne Ness, and Eric Ness. We spent half of our time in the Bandit Springs trail system, and half in the Walton Lake system. Although the camping was “primitive” Gary brought enough firewood to turn the grassy meadow into a warm, enviting site. Ken remarked that it would be fun to coordinate a ski rendezvous between the two chapters this winter.
