Roz O’Donoghue led eleven people on a “scenic walk” of about 8.5 miles and 800-1000 feet elevation gain last Sunday, August 25 in the Newberry Crater National Monument. The route featured an ascent alongside the big Obsidian flow, a walk along the rim of the crater (with views!), a summit of Paulina Peak for some and a descent down the flank of the same peak. Two members became separated from the main group at the onset but astutely chose to hike from the opposite direction and so met everyone else below Paulina Peak. We took the time to take in and photograph expansive views, meeting very few people on the trails for most of the hike.
