Five Central Oregon Nordic Club skiers found “remarkably good” snow on a backcountry springtime ski that left the Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center on Sunday, April 14.
The group skied to Todd Lake and then climbed to Todd Ridge toward an area some club members have unofficially dubbed “Good View.”
“We got peek-a-boo views of Bachelor and Broken Top,” says skier Jerry Sebestyen. “We dropped to the north and went out what has been named as Jerry’s Alley and then skirted the 370 road back to Big Meadow and returned to the Nordic Center by way of the Big Meadow trail.
“This loop was a little over seven miles. The snow was in remarkably good shape with about two inches of new on top. The weather was broken overcast but we started in the upper 20s went up to maybe 35 or 36 and then it got chilly again. Three of the five of us had never been up Todd Ridge or to Good View, so it was some uncharted territory for them.”
