Round Mountain

Two vehicles and eight CONC members headed out past Prineville to the Ochoco Mountains on Sunday, June 9. The objective was an out-and-back hike to the top of Round Mountain from the south trailhead (also the trailhead for Lookout Mountain). The trail is described as “strenuous”, but the relatively cool weather and beautiful views kept the energy flowing. The trail ran through hillsides of deep purple Larkspur and meadows of False Hellebore, and wove in and out of forests of Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, and even Juniper. A few clouds were accumulating as the group reached the lunch spot on the peak, but the views still extended north to Mt. Adams and south to Diamond Peak.
