On Sunday, May 28th, there were 17 CONCer’s who met at Thump and declined Eric’s offer to lead a death march up Black Butte. These folks decided to join a Geo-Hike to Shevlin Park. Our resident expert John Stockham (A thousand thank-yous to him!) imparted his information about the Volcanology of the Cascade Range while we were at Thump’s. We then drove to Shevlin where he walked us to a couple of sites and talked to us about: Shevlin Tuff, Deschutes Tuff, Welded Tuff, and Unwelded Tuff. However the hike was not “tough.” Many of us continued to the bridge that crosses Tumalo Creek, had lunch and hiked back. Contributed by Jerry SebestyenPhotos by Jerry Sebestyen and Marty Rose
