Skiing in the Time of COVID-19

Sunday, March 15 was an organizational scramble.  Trying to heed best practices to keep the Coronavirus at bay, some folks met at the Safeway and some folks met the groups at the trail heads.  Jerry wanted to ski the new snow up at Todd Lake and Big Meadow so five skiers headed up that way.  With the downhill area closed and the road blocked off, everyone wanted to park at Dutchman sno-park; so of course the lot was full.  However someone in Jerry’s car had been living right because when he pulled in a car was pulling out, freeing up a parking space;  talk about parking Karma.  The group enjoyed beautiful kick and glide snow across the Flat until hooking up with the Todd Lake trail.  Then, the run down to the lake was quick.  They were on about three inches of new fluff on top of a solid ice layer.  From the lake they climbed up the Todd Ridge trail, then connected with Big Meadow, and back to Dutchman and the loop trail to the parking lot.  The snow was thin underneath the hemlocks but still quite skiable.  Weather conditions were overcast and wintry but new snow is always a bonus.
