A tireless band of CONC snowshoe trail volunteers went on their final scheduled work party of 2018 on Monday, Dec. 17, this time heading out from Upper Three Creeks Sno-Park.
“Sure could have used more snow but heck, good weather and great company — can’t complain about two out of three,” reports group leader Bob Timmer.
The parking lot was covered in frozen slush with probably 40% bare ground on the hillside to the west, Bob reports.
“So, leaving snowshoes in the cars, Dennis DeLapp, David Alward, Mike Bodel, Desi and Charlie Vial, Doug Williams, Christie Crowe, Mathieu Federspeil, Al Matson, Gary Evans, Jim Elliott and I headed out on boots to install the permanent trail signs, set additional blue poles and check for blowdown,” Bob continues.
The group installed a new trailhead sign, then followed a few footsteps in the thin (less than six inches) to spotty snow to the top of the ridge and then onto the crossing of Warren’s Trail, where workers installed new signs.
“Continuing on, one new blue pole was set after crossing Nancy’s Loop and the final trail sign installed at Jeff View Shelter,” Bob continues. “Four blue assurance diamonds were installed to improve inter-marker visibility. Only one small blowdown tree needed cutting.”
Bob extends appreciation to volunteers and reports they’ll resume their regular trail efforts on Jan. 8, snow permitting.
